Interview with songstress Rudo Chasi

Tell us about yourself. Who is Rudo Chasi and her journey so far?
I was born and raised in Harare  Zimbabwe on the 6th of march in 1988 and I come from a family of two children that is my twin sister and I. I went to Moleli high school and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Girls High where I excelled in my academics and proceeded to study law in the year 2008 at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

A Love letter to Zimbabwe

Oh, Zimbabwe! Country of my heart! I don’t know anymore where I stand with you. Could you ever love me like I love you? Or is this love I bear for you that worst kind of love - unrequited?
I have loved you through so much! I have laboured with you, travailed on my knees, wept for you. I have turned my back on you, and sought to embrace others - and still found my way back to you. And yet still my heart is torn apart by you. Still, for the sake of my sanity, I must find a way to leave your suffocating embrace.

Finton and his Guitar take on Europe

Tell us about your background and how you entered into the music business?
I grew up in Mutare, in a township/ghetto called Dangamvura, where I learned a lot about life and from where I still take lots of inspiration. My brother Angelicus Tatenda, was the one who was always pushing me into music and encouraging me. When we were still young he enjoyed hearing me sing. Since he passed away of cancer, I still always hear him calling for more songs, I play with the picture that he is listening to me.

Future of Traditional Leaders in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has state lands which the government is responsible for and communal lands in rural areas where traditional leaders are responsible. These traditional leaders include the Chief at the top of the hierarchy followed by the Headman then Sabhuku. Traditional leadership is appointed according to lineage and is usually for life. With more than 6 million people living in rural Zimbabwe, traditional leadership still plays an important role. Sabhuku is a chairman of the Village  Development Committee (VIDCO). The committee has a vice chair, secretary, treasurer and 3 other members.
